Piper invests £7.5m in Borough Broth to champion healthy and sustainable convenience food

We’re delighted to announce our £7.5 million investment in Borough Broth, the British organic bone broth brand on a mission to make sustainable, nutrient-rich food mainstream. This marks the seventh investment from our Fund VII and our tenth B Corp partnership, reinforcing our commitment to backing growing consumer brands that make life healthier, happier and more sustainable.

A brand born from purpose
Founded in 2015 by Ros Heathcote with just £6,000 borrowed from a friend, Borough Broth began life in a small London kitchen. During a personal health crisis, Ros rediscovered the healing power of bone broth chicken soup from her childhood. Frustrated by the lack of high-quality options, she started selling her slow-cooked, organic broths at local markets and online, pioneering the UK broth category. With no prior experience in the food industry, Ros transitioned from a career in data analysis and business intelligence to create a business built on precision, integrity and purpose.

Ten years on, Borough Broth has grown into one of the UK’s fastest-growing organic, B Corp–certified and female founded brands. Today it has revenues of more than £10 million, growing +93% year-on-year, and is stocked in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Ocado and independents across the UK. Its award-winning range – from classic chicken and beef broths to Tonkotsu Ramen and Pho – has earned 14 Great Taste Awards and multiple BOOM (Best of Organic Market) wins.

Why Borough Broth?
Borough Broth sits at the intersection of taste, health, sustainability and convenience, tapping into consumer demand while driving behaviour change with its versatility:

  • 57% of customers primarily use it as a cooking ingredient to add depth to soups, sauces, stews and roasts.
  • 24% drink it as a hot, comforting beverage.
  • 19% consume it for functional benefits like gut health and immune support.

High in protein and collagen, they’re also popular for longevity and increasingly feature in GLP-1 diets thanks to their low-carb, high-protein profile. While most enjoy them at lunch or dinner, one in five customers start their day with a broth as a health boost or to break a fast.

Championing ultra-slow, sustainable food
The company’s commitment to the circular economy, traceability and animal welfare sets a benchmark for sustainable food. Every product is ultra-slow-cooked for 24 hours using British organic bones reclaimed from the meat industry, ingredients that would otherwise go to waste, transforming them into deeply nourishing, flavour-rich broths.

From sourcing to production, the business is guided by a belief in protecting human health, biodiversity, and the planet through organic, traceable, and regenerative practices, ensuring that not only the cleanest ingredients are used, but also the highest animal welfare standards. Borough Broth only use whole ingredients (never extracts or powders) and source their organic bones from Soil Association certified Organic farms across the UK.

Supporting growth
Our £7.5m investment will accelerate Borough Broth’s growth and cement its leadership in ultra-slow, sustainable food. This includes:

  • Relocating to a new West London manufacturing site with more than double the current capacity.
  • Strengthening the senior team to support scale.
  • Driving innovation into new organic categories such as soups, stocks and gravies.

This is Borough Broth’s first institutional investment, following a decade of sustainable growth and just £783,000 in angel funding. With revenues forecast to reach £20m in 2026, the brand is poised to become a household name.

As Rory Gibbs, Partner at Piper, says: “Borough Broth is perfectly positioned at the intersection of taste, health, sustainability and convenience. Ros has built a truly special brand with exceptional products and purpose at its heart. We see huge potential to grow Borough Broth into a household name, one that leads the conversation around healthy, nourishing and sustainable eating.”

Ros Heathcote, Founder and CEO, adds: “I started Borough Broth to help people feel nourished by real food, made the right way. Partnering with Piper gives us the expertise and resources to bring that mission to even more people. Their track record in building purposeful food brands and their shared values make them the ideal partner for our next chapter.”
